Baniyas failed to reach the group stage of the AFC Champions League when it lost the play-off match against the Uzbek Nasaf team with a score of two goals to nothing in the match that was held at Al Shamkha Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Al-Samawi entered the meeting with a squad that included Fahd Al-Dhanhani, Khaled Al-Attas, Sasha, Hussein Abbas, Khamis Al-Hammadi, Fawaz Awana, Gaston Suarez, Nicolas Gimenez, Essa Al-Mazmi, Suhail Al-Noubi, and Mohammed Rashid.

Baniyas managed to achieve the advantage at the beginning of the match, but Nasaf goalkeeper Omidjon Argachev managed to save his goal from more than one opportunity, most notably Mohammed Rashid Al Hammadi's shot from a narrow angle in the 4th minute, then Gaston Suarez's long-range shot in the 14th minute.

On the other hand, Fahd Al-Dhanhani, goalkeeper Al-Samawi, starred in blocking Hussein Nurchayev's header in the 16th minute.

The Uzbek team snatched the goal of the lead when Ivan Solovyev sent a perfect ball to Sherzod Nasrlayev to shoot from close range beyond the reach of Fahd Al Dhanhani, the heavenly goalkeeper, in the 27th minute.

The owners of the land rushed to the attack in order to modify the result, amid a strong defensive closure from Nasaf players, and the most prominent chances of Baniyas were through Nicolas Gimenez's powerful shot from outside the area, which was blocked by goalkeeper Argachev.

Then Nasaf managed to score the second goal when Nurchayev followed the ball inside the area and fired from the first touch into the net in the 75th minute.
