Baniyas Club suffered a 2–1 defeat against Al Nasr Club in their Round 11 fixture of the ADNOC Pro League, played at Baniyas Stadium.
The match started at a high tempo, with Al Nasr taking the lead in the 18th minute through Jonathas Santos following a well-organised attacking move. Baniyas responded positively and equalised in the 25th minute, as Saviour Godwin produced a powerful finish to bring the Sky Blues back into the game.
Al Nasr regained the advantage later in the first half when Ramon Mierez scored the visitors’ second goal in the 31st minute, giving his side a 2–1 lead at half-time.
Deep into first-half stoppage time, Baniyas were awarded a crucial chance to equalise after the referee pointed to the spot in the 45+10 minute. However, the penalty kick taken by Shokurov was not converted.
Baniyas’ task became more challenging in the second half after Leonel Wamba was shown a red card in the 53rd minute, forcing the team to continue the match with ten players. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Baniyas showed resilience and attacking intent, pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Al Nasr’s defensive organisation prevented any change to the scoreline.
Baniyas delivered a committed and competitive performance throughout the match, demonstrating strong fighting spirit despite the result and playing a significant part of the game with a man down.
The Sky Blues will now focus on their upcoming fixtures in the ADNOC Pro League, aiming to build on the positives and return to winning ways.
