Sharjah eliminate Baniyas in the President's Cup

Sharjah Club booked its place in the semi-finals of the UAE President's Cup, after its hard-fought victory over Bani Yas by one goal to nil, in the match that brought the two teams together at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The match started cautiously from both sides, as both teams relied on defensive positioning and organized play in the middle of the field, which reduced the real chances of scoring. The most dangerous attempts came in the 35th minute, when Caio Lucas shot a powerful ball that was brilliantly saved by Bani Yas' goalkeeper, so the first half ended in a goalless draw.

With the start of the second half, Sharjah intensified its attacks in an attempt to crack Bani Yas' defense. In the 78th minute, Caio Lucas managed to score the only goal of the match, after a wonderful through pass from his teammate Meloni, which Lucas shot powerfully into goalkeeper Fahad Al Dhanhani's net, giving his team a ticket to the semi-finals.

After the goal, Bani Yas tried to come back in the score, but its attempts did not succeed in front of the solidity of Sharjah’s defense, and the brilliance of goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani, who stopped more than one dangerous opportunity in the last minutes.
