Baniyas faced the leaders of the league Sharjah for the 7th round of the Arabian Gulf League in the match that brought together the two teams at Sharjah Stadium, which ended with a 2-1 for the home team.
Al-Samawi entered the match with list of Fahd Al-Dhahnani, Robson, Hassan Al Mahrami, Yousif Jaber, Salem Al Hammadi, Michael Ortega, Ahmed Al Shamsi, Haboush Saleh, Suhail Al Nubi, Leroy George and Pedro Conde.
Sharjah scored early in the 16th minute through player Abdulla Sorour after a powerful shot from outside the area. Baniyas tried to return the match and equlize on more than one chance before Ahmed Al Shamsi injury to enter instead of him Faisal Al-Khadim in the 30 minute. Al-Samawi’s attempts failed to score, to end the first half with 1-0.
Al-Samawi took over in the second half and had several serious attempts, notably through Colombian Michael Ortega, who was brilliantly shot with amazing save by Al-Husani, keeper of Sharjah. In a counter-attack, Wilton Suarez took advantage of the lack of concentration of Al Samawi defenders to score the second goal of Sharjah in the minute. Baniyas scored and minimize the gap through Pedro Condi in the 88th minute but it was not enough to leave Baniyas with two defeats this season.
In the next round, Baniyas will face Al Dhafra for the 8th round of the Arabian Gulf League at Al Shamkha Stadium on Wednesday, October 31 at 7:30.
